Lumen Couture LED Bluetooth Mask Featured in VentureBeat

On April 5th we released a video describing our innovation in using our LED flex panels in a mask design. This mask is designed to have removable tech components for easy washing.

The project has gained the attention of several media outlets, including Venture Beat. We are in the process of making this product available as a product for our fans.

This year we were invited to participate in Tech Fashion Tour in Mumbai. This was the fifth year of the event, hosted by Exhibit magazine. The event showcased local designers, and every year invites an international designer who is a leader in combining tech and fashion.

Projection Mapping Showcase: Franck Sorbier

French designer Franck Sorbier utilized projection mapping technology in his Fall/Winter 2012-2013 runway collection. Inspired by the classic French fairytale Peau d’Âne (Donkeyskin), the designer partnered with Intel for the support on the project.

Holiday Shopping Deadline: Dec 14th 2019

The deadline to place orders to arrive for the holidays is Dec 14th by noon.
I will be traveling starting Dec 15th, and will not be available to ship orders during that time. As a small independent business who hand-makes and hand-packs every order, I currently don’t have a method to ship orders while I’m away traveling. This is something I’m hoping to solve in the new year as my business grows.

MakeFashion FashionTech Showcase: Dresses with Playable Games

Can your clothes be playable video games? GamerGirls by Phi Illuminated Designs for MakeFashion created the Gamer Girls dresses which allow wearers to compete against each other with LED interfaces and shoulder pads that reveal scores.

Gamergirls is a one of a kind design featuring two futuristic fashion dresses that allow the wearers to play an arcade style video game together, using each other’s dresses as the screen display. 

Introducing the 2019 MakeFashion Lineup

MakeFashion has just released their lineup for the 2019 event in September, where the new collection of fashiontech garments will be debuted before they tour the world internationally.

The event will take place in Calgary, Canada on Sept 21, 2019 in partnership with Beakerhead. This is the second year that MakeFashion has partnered with Beakerhead for a stunning outdoor show.

Keynote at Tech Fashion Week SF 2019

On April 16th, 2019, Lumen Couture founder Chelsea Klukas opened SF Tech Fashion Week 2019 with a keynote presentation. She was also a member of a women in tech panel at the event, held at the Shopify Kit Office in San Francisco.

This installment of Women in Fashion+Tech panel highlighted the current state of the convergence of fashion and technology and how fashion tech companies are elevating customer experience to the next level. Topics covered included retail disruption with ecommerce technology; social media and trends fueling the future of the business of fashion.

Fashion is ART! Fashion Show in Tacoma, WA

On April 30th we participated in Fashion is ART! In Tacoma, Washington with garments from both our ready-to-wear collection and new couture designs.

Unlike a traditional runway show, Fashion is ART! elevated fashion to the level fo fine art, with an on-site studio photography session and live drawing and painting of the models. The photographs and live art sessions were open for audience members to observe, giving a glimpse into the process of documenting and capturing fashion.

Future Fashion Inspiration: Illuminated Topaz Dress

To celebrate the unveiling of the world’s largest cut Topaz at the Natural History Museum in London, designers Moritz Waldemeyer and Deborah Milner created a bodysuit using blue topaz stones and LED lighting.

Smart Earrings: A hearable computer in your ear

Hearables function similar to other voice devices by understanding voice commands and speaking, or in this case whispering, back. Some hearables are paired with a mobile interface so that users don’t need to speak out loud in public.

ONE LOVE Runway Show in Seattle

We recently has the pleasure of showcasing on the runway for theONE LOVE: Seattle Art Exhibition & Fashion Show. The event was held at the Rhino Room in Capitol Hill, and was presented by WILDJAY clothing.

The sold out event featured local Seattle designers including BunchaScrunch, Trash by Tony, and Bartle B. The event had over 50 models on the runway and featured pop-up shops and art exhibitions from the community.

We recently participated in a runway show for Original Design Fashion Week in Shenzhen. This show featured designs from our ready-to-wear collection, as well as a collaborative collection with MakeFashion and StarCode.

Lumen Couture at the Opening of the Calgary Public Library

We were recently part of the Lit Gala celebrating the opening of the new Calgary Central Library with MakeFashion on Nov 2.

The new Central Library was a $245 million project, and is the only Canadian building on Architectural Digest’s 2018 Most Anticipated Buildings in the World.

This September our Ready-to-Wear line made its debut on the runway at MakeFashion’s 2018 runway show at Beakernight. We showcased three sequin dresses from our sequin line, and our white lace dress.

The sequin dresses are now available for pre-order to ship in time for holiday events. All dresses are also available for rental.

Luma Projection Arts Festival in Binghamton

LUMA is a projection festival held annually in Upstate New York that celebrates the intersection of art and technology. Founded in 2015, the three-person team expected a crowd of 3,000: and 30,000 came. Since then the festival has grown, with the mission dedicated to the art of storytelling through projection mapping.

On August 18 2018, we showcased our future-fashion clothing at the Seattle Mini MakerFaire. Our exhibition showcased work from the Lumen Couture ready-to-wear line, and runway garments from MakeFashion. We hosted a Q&A with the audience discussing our process of prototyping and the tools and techniques used in our garments.

Jeff de Boer is a Calgary-based multi-media artist with an international reputation for producing some of the world’s most original and well-crafted works of art. Grant McKee is an electronic engineering technologist.

Dark Power LED Skirt with MakeFashion in Calgary

In April 20 2018, the Dark Power skirt travelled to Calgary Canada with MakeFashion. Motionball is a Canadian national not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to introduce the next generation of donors, volunteers and sponsors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events.

The Dark Power skirt incorporates LEDs to glow and feature an array of colours and patterns. It is available for rental or purchase.
