Our fashion tech journey started over 7 years ago, with our founder Chelsea Klukas co-founding MakeFashion when she lived in Calgary. After years of producing the events and curating the annual collection, Klukas was inspired to launch the Lumen Couture line.

When Laura Dempsey’s motion-activated dress took the runway, modeled by a leaping dancer, there was an overwhelming energy in the room. Since that day we’ve grown exponentially and have produced over 100 garments and events all over the world, but the dress has remained one of MakeFashion’s most iconic pieces.

MakeFashion FashionTech Showcase: Dresses with Playable Games

Can your clothes be playable video games? GamerGirls by Phi Illuminated Designs for MakeFashion created the Gamer Girls dresses which allow wearers to compete against each other with LED interfaces and shoulder pads that reveal scores.

Gamergirls is a one of a kind design featuring two futuristic fashion dresses that allow the wearers to play an arcade style video game together, using each other’s dresses as the screen display. 

Introducing the 2019 MakeFashion Lineup

MakeFashion has just released their lineup for the 2019 event in September, where the new collection of fashiontech garments will be debuted before they tour the world internationally.

The event will take place in Calgary, Canada on Sept 21, 2019 in partnership with Beakerhead. This is the second year that MakeFashion has partnered with Beakerhead for a stunning outdoor show.

The tech tie team is based in Calgary, Alberta. Shannon Hoover is the chief technologist and Co-Founder of MakeFashion. Jeff de Boer is a Calgary-based multi-media artist with an international reputation for producing some of the world’s most original and well-crafted works of art. Grant McKee is an electronic engineering technologist.
